Battle Honours are special Ribbons consisting of three bars, issued for particularly fine performances, said performance needing to be witnessed by at least one officer/NCO/Nurse, preferably more, or be caught on daguerreotype or celluloid.  The more outrageously theatrical the better, although pure ham-acting is less likely to attract positive attention.  As described above these are battle “honours” and should be treated as such.  After all, they are never awarded casually, no matter how much importuneous begging, pleading or cajoling may occur. These Ribbons may be awarded for Campaign Battles, non-Campaign battles or special events and, as such, are appended to the medal-board immediately following the battle or event they were awarded for or immediately following the Campaign Ribbon prior to the non-campaign battle or event. At the time of writing, the Regiment recognises and awards eight distinct Battle Honours, some for both Chaps and Nurses, others limited to one or the other branch of the Regiment's Service strength: |
